[title drop]
For me, I think it is Most Wanted (2005 game) that has made the game series popular.
Which NFS game do you think has made the game series popular?

Originally, it was the first NFS which throw the success bomb, then NFS III HP brought the series to much bigger popularity cause driving on both side sides the law in the most luxurious sportscars in the world with (at its time) very good 3D graphics was a milestone in the racing series, High Stakes increased it.
Hot Pursuit 2 then throw an even better bomb, with the new generation of graphics and the PS2, Xbox and newer better PC's around things raised up.
Underground made another major step, not because of the game itself, but with the movies hyping those tuner racing scenes people had a relation they could do what they do in the movies.
However, in fact after 2000 the video game market expanded due to the new gen consoles many people bought those - it became cool, before 2000 pc technology was very tight and barely had a global base as it wasn't very commercial and useful for the public society, most likely used for business and on the other side it was a nerds thing, but when PS2, Mac, ... released it was like partly a 'must-have' for teenagers which was definitely important for many games, especially sports games and racing games.
I remember the girls loved the Sims creating their world how they want the future, family stuff haha they still do it sometimes at ladies night haha.We played football back then already and still play so Madden was a great addition for parties and overall for chill, testing plays, research or just beating your bros.
I believe many games had a much bigger success because of the consoles, if the 90's games had these they would been sold much more too, but consoles and pc's were rare back then.
The main Winner in the NFS series are probably TNFS, NFS III, HP2, UG, MW, PS and Hot Pursuit 2010.
The brand NFS is known for luxury sports and supercars against cops on breath taking environments thats what made it originally popular.

I think that Hot Pursuit 2 and Underground started out the popularity, and like most things, after it went mainstream ( After Pro Street ) the series started slowly declining in quality, just look at Undercover and Rivals lmao.

Undercover failed cuz of the physics. its like playing flappy bird with cars I actually liked the physics in Undercover, they were promoted as Heroic Driving Engine and its purpose was to allow the player cool, easy and quick stunts and turns to gain stylepoints and escape the cops. Rivals? That is definitely an out standing title which is successfull, maybe not as much as HP, but its good. @thijs21 I don't like the import tuner scene and its really out of fashion and can't compete with the style and popularity of sports cars, but it was fun and you can't deny its success, tho, Fast'n'Furious sure helped the success for those import tuner games.

But then after 2000 with Xbox, PS2 it became an interesting thing for any teenagers and families...also Mac PC's became a status symbol. The immense sales of HP2 and Underground compared to previous years definitely had a major influence by the new generation of consoles.

The NFS classics are great and actually specific titles better than Underground (imo) etc.But games just sold way lower in the 90's because computers and consoles were nothing really common in those days. First time I played video games was on my uncles computer he got NFS III HP and MCO for me, that was 2001, at that time Xbox and PS2 came along our childhood, like every kid wanted one, Madden, MVP, NBA, NASCAR...in 2005 or so I bought the slim ps2 and parents bought a new pc at the time (1,000 bucks). I remember playin Mario Party with ma clique at parties...haha that was funny...
