@lacooper I mean black box's first NFS was HP2. As I said, that's when NFS had most success, with black box. btw. I love dem classics Yeah, but that didn't have to do with Black Box just because they took over development, aside the games quality the next gen step had major influence on any game (new graphics, licensed music,...) and actually just looking back NFS Hot Pursuit, Most Wanted and Rivals have more success than most of the BB titles, HP made over 9,5 million sales within 2 years after release which made it the 2nd best sold NFS in history.

I always though the NFS games underground to carbon were really popular, so everything before or after those don't seem to be as good.

Cause the amount of consoles and computers were limited, the computer wasn't that advanced in the 90's resulting its private usage and need was much lower than it is today.
However, the first NFS titles were very successfull for its time and became famous for giving people the opportunity to drive on world's hottest exotic cars as a racer and cop on breath taking roads, but also delivering car showrooms with Videos, speech info, photos, details and history about each car. (TNFS, NFS III, HS, HP2)
Hot Pursuit 2010 brought some of it back, e.g. the car showroom had a female voice explaining the cars details - similar to HP2.
Besides, HP 10 sales are much better than any BB title.

HP2002 made it popular, Underground made it mainstream.

All of them. Every single one was either a new thing in the series (a 1st time free roam for example in UG2) or something special not met in the other NFS titles (CARBON canions).

No they didn't. Rivals made the series less hip and trendy if it did anything. Most wanted 2005 and HP 2010 were probably the games that popularized the series.
