Dont forget, that Carbon development started at last dev stages of NFSU1(overall ideas stage, early concepts and game engine itself).
I consider Jackson Heights as Black Box's test for idea of receating Touge racing into NFS game(downhill drifting inUG2 just sucks, due dumb physics and handling. It's more like arab drift and nothing like Japanese drifting). They just took some well done curves for Deadfall Junction/LHD/JM and bigger part of east Jackson heights to make Gold Valle Run, all canyons are well done with great atmosphere (dont forget, Lookout Point is still very first and and totally fresh canyon route and it's magnificent for drifting). In UG2 Jackson Heights is nice but not great like Carbon's canyons (with this tribal, drum music it's even better). Still dont believe me? Look how you guys hated going 166th time to race or special event from south Bayview to furthest north of Jackson Heights. It was long, slow and boring. But in Carbon, i just loved moment when i could do another run on any canyon route in career mode.
