At world garage forum, either in chat or in a thread, I think Eduardo mentioned a possible runway behind (west of) the current airport terminal that could be used as a drag strip if a drag mode was added. In U2, there is a runway with a lot of taxiways behind the airport terminal and these are used for some of the URL (Undeground Racing League) tracks. There are also drag tracks but these are probably separate maps like the other drag tracks in U2. It's possible to free roam the URL / runway area by resetting at a particular spot from one of the URL tracks. It's nice place to roam because you can see the jets taxi, take off, and land. In NFS World, the area west and a bit north of the airport has textures for the connector roads that would link Kempton, Palmont, and Rockport. The area in version 4 was simpler and the textures only partially completed with a drivable section of road, but it appears to have been enhanced with the textures completed, but the drivable road removed. There's a long north south straight that may have originally planned to be a runway, but now it's split level highway. View from the lower level: In case you're interested, video showing how to free roam U2's airport area:

Having a runway for drag racing in World would actually kind of make sense, as Drag Mode exists and if you look at the NFS Most Wanted beta map thread, you can see a runway there.
The only problems here would be: 1. Accessibility, there are no roads leading to the possible runway area. 2. There are no devs to work on this, the game is basically dead.

My guess is that long north south road shown in the first post may have been more like a runway before that area was changed in version 5, but in version 4, the textures for that area were only partially completed, so it could have been located elsewhere. The version 5 long north south straight road is connected to the roads that link Kempton, Palmont, and Rockport. There was also a list of unreleased events for NFS World back in 2010 - 2011, some of which included drag tracks similar to the ones in NFS Most Wanted, so it seems that a drag mode was planned for early on, but never implemented. As you mention, there's no one to work on this anymore, which is why I asked where the runway might have been.

Yeah, it's really unfortunate how it went, it seems like the devs had a lot of things planned such as some connector roads, the runway and canyons. I wish they put someone to work on it again. Hell, even Ghost Games would do..

First of all, in my opinion the game should be moved from EA to a non-greedy private company. Then a medium or large team of sane and capable developers. Preferably some NFS MW2005/Carbon fans who are going to revamp and continuously PLAY the game they're working on. EDIT: Well, apparently I don't need drugs or something to be high. We all know that EA won't let this happen as World is one of their favorite cash cows. A list of World's major issues that a new team of devs would have to fix 1. Unfair cash cow free2play system (the game wasn't free at first and it should have NEVER become free because cash cow bull crap happens when any MMO goes free which is the free2play system getting added)
2. Hackers (auto finishers being the worst, and banning them has always been an issue for the persons in charge of World)
3. Unfixed Bugs and servers issues (you all know what Iām talking about)
4. Still no Free Roam chat (disabled ages ago literally only because World's former dumbass devs couldn't ban the chat hackers and this whole issue was crashing the game for the other players)
5. No ghost mode (option to turn off collision between cars in races because decency, something this game fails to have), not even in Private Matches
6. Most of the times, the only "new features" of the game were either "new" cars (some are special editions of stock cars or previously retired cars [they've gone extremely far with the focus on cars, BEST NFS GAMES DON'T HAVE OVER 100 CARS YOU DUMBASS DEVS FOR FUCK'S SAKE >_>], not all new cars are actually new). Also, these "new" cars were SpeedBoost only, which brings us to issue #1 of NFSW. Oh and, this was happening when the game had some devs actually, now there's not even such thing as "new" cars lol. Good thing in a way. Between no new content and scam so called ānew content", I totally pick no new content.
7. Unbalance between many cars in terms of performance (in my opinion, overpowered cars shouldn't be nerfed instead just buff much slower or underpowered cars)
8. Unfinished new roads (the connectors between Rockport and Kempton, and the canyons, which were 95% finished or something according to the former devs)

I hope EA soon realizes that someone needs to be put to work on the game. Oh wait, EA consists of dumbasses who don't realise when it's time to do something.

The only thing EA really needs for this game is a good development team, apparently they don't realise it. For fuck's sake EA, do something with our money!

You do realize that a good development team would remove the free2play system to keep away any and all the cash cowing, right? And EA is just a huge ass gambling company. Are people even reading my posts? I said that World should be moved from EA to a private, non-greedy company.

All I'm saying is, it needs a good dev team, regardless of whether or not the game will go pay-to-play.

Won't matter if it only gets a good dev team, simply because EA wouldn't let these devs to improve the game at all. EA would just continue exploiting the free2play system for profit. Kinda what happened in the BB era. Trust me, the game remaining free2play or going pay-to-play it's more important than some of us think. Anyways, as we both pointed out... unfortunately EA won't let World get moved. Unless the sales of SB would decrease a lot, which I doubt.

World is not a free 2 play game. It's a pay 2 win. Just like EA wanted.

World was F2P before EA focused on cars, not on gaming fun. Fun was when Free Roam Chat was active. You always could meet with someone new and spend quality time with a group talking, laughing and racing. If someone was OK you added him to friends. Now it is impossible. I lost almost every friend cuz we couldn't find someone to join. Also 8 hours with the same group found on a voice chat makes people more sociable. You could get an opportunity to become for example a moderator on a forum, just for spending some fun time with an admin.
Now EA fucked up the game, and it is no longer fun.

It's a damn runway. But why was the driveable section removed? And why was the road made into a highway instead? Also, do you happen to have pics of the incompleted textured road in version 4?

Image of the paved jumps before they became open frames. I don't recall who sent me this image. Video of the drivable partial connector road from version 4:

Whoa, wait a drawbridge? The connector road had a drawbridge? There are two drawbridges. If you look at the right side of the image in the first post, you can see the other drawbridge on the north side. These first showed up as paved surfaces, then later as open frames (I think this was done late 2010). There are drawbridges in Underground 1 (no pursuit mode), and if you don't make the jump, the game resets your car back to a spot before the drawbridge so you have to try again, which is probably what NFS World would do. NFS World would also have to deal with cops that don't make the jumps in pursuits, and traffic cars in free roam. In Most Wanted, you can get past the boulders blocking off the final escape road by carefully positioning your car and resetting a few times. Once past there, you can try out the jump. In this case, if you don't make the jump, your car lands down below the bridge on a small "drivable" area at water level and there's no way to get back up other than teleport back to the safe house.
