Ok now guys before you jump into conclusions I may be wrong.So when Nikki tutorials you she seems to be in a hurry right? And once she was done she took off somewhere... Perhaps she was looking for a crew member you or she stumbled across a crew in SJ.She beat the boss,or asked nicely for a member:D.Then they gave(or she won him)Sal Mustela.Nikki must have brought Sal to you y'know since she intruduced him.
I made this thread to tell you that maybe Nikki won Sal in SJ while Neville and 'the player' was being chased by cops and was winning their first few races.

Okay I really am gonna start getting the plugin to limit the nfs theories category and implement an review system, because this is getting annoying

My best guess is Sal is just a local racer that wasn't in any crew, but may have wanted to be in a crew, and also knew Nikki, so she introduces him to the player's character to become the first member of the players crew.

My best guess is Sal is just a local racer that wasn't in any crew, but may have wanted to be in a crew, and also knew Nikki, so she introduces him to the player's character to become the first member of the players crew. This is the best answer!That's what the game tells us and Sal says he knows you and is a fan of you. |

I found a race which sal's crews (Or cars with sal's vinyl) challenges you, that named "Salazar Street", this race only available in quick races.

wikia link about the major and minor crews in Carbon: nfs.wikia.com/wiki/Need_for_Speed:_Carbon/CrewsPrima guide for Carbon states that Sal was a fan of the player's character in the prequel days (5 years before the Carbon main storyline takes place) and spent his time off track following the careers of the other racers, but it also states that Sal is able to win races as an somewhat unknown racer because he knows all the shortcuts (Sal is a scout). There's no mention of Sal belonging or not belongling to any crew in the Prima guide or in the game. I don't know if there is a Sal vinyl. The characters from the main crews do not join the player until the player takes over a section of the map. Sal appears regardless of which territories are controlled by the players crew (which starts off with just Neville). Both Neville and Sall will drive the same class (exotic, muscle, tuner) car as the player's currently selected car. At the start of career, if you go out of bounds to get past the barriers blocking off Silverton to get into Silverton, all the territories display they are controlled by stacked deck, so there are no "hidden crews" never to be seen in Silverton. |

maybe EA names the race Salazar Street because of the "Sal-azar" (Sal's name added with "azar")

In my thoughts Sal had a crew (former), then his boss let Sal out of the crew and Sal is a local racer, or he asks his boss can he go out of the crew and be a local racer.
