But what if he likes both as much...? However, they are pretty similar, the career process has the same main core features: You have to beat a top driver list of the Most Wanted street racers to become #1 and the Most Wanted. Both involved intense pursuits. It just the 2012 Edition has no cut scene driven story, but skip the sequences in MW 05 and have the same result.
1. NFS Hot Pursuit (and Motor City Online) 2. NFS Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2, PC) 3. NFS Underground 4. NFS Carbon 5. NFS III Hot Pursuit / IV High Stakes 6. NFS Underground 2 7. NFS The Run 8. NFS Pro Street 9. NFS Undercover 10.R&T Present: The Need for Speed Special Edition
Some may wonder why's there's no NFS Most Wanted, the thing's the game's good but it's not like that good and on the other hand I hardly can really run down such a list for NFS as it always depends on the actual interest - unlike in sports games (there the basics are the same) these games are often very different to each other (e.g. Underground and Hot Pursuit) have nothing alike. It's easier to say which would be the greatest of choice, so even tho I don't really like tuners, the Underground-Series was great and along with Hot Pursuit-Series those are on top.

UPDATED MY LIST, even tho nobody gives a F, because this thread is old like shit and abandoned, but still. I have actually played some oldies in the recent days and i kinda start liking UG2. And also a LOT has changed from my previous list. Like Rivals is now 10 instead of 5 and Undercover isn't on the list anymore. So starting from the worst: 10. Rivals (Bugs and glitches everywhere. Map doesn't even load some times and the game crashes from time to time which is annoying. The racing is pretty good tho.) 9. Hot Pursuit 2 (A true classic. One of the best racing games from early 2000's) 8. Most Wanted 2012 (The racing is just really fun. I don't care if others hate it) 7. Pro Street (Speed Runs are just epic. Drift's and drags are fun. Could've really improve the handling and the music could be better, but not bad though.) 6. Porsche Unleashed (Dayum this fell from 2 to 6. Still love it tho) 5. The Run (This was my Nr.1 for some time, but it got kind of boring and it lost some charm. Still a great game tho) 4. Underground 2 (Yeaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!! Nothing is more fun than ricing cars.) 3. Shift (the most fun simulator i have played. Not boring like Forza or Gran Turismo) 2. Most Wanted (Nostalgia. Started playing this in 2005 and still am playing it some times) 1. Underground 1 (Nothing beats the classics!)

I can do 4 (have played quite a few other NFSs, but can't really position them): 4- Need for Speed Underground 2 Yes, it is a huge grind to complete, and yes, the physics suck, but its HARD to not like this game. There has never been better (or truer) ricing in a game. You can make your car ugly as hell, the sexiest thing alive, a street machine, in this game, you can do it. You can even map your ECU (and turbos)! And, although some may disagree, the races were fun because the map was good, and the physics are rather amusing when toyed with. I also liked the NOS (yes this matters to me) in this game better than in any other NFS: it felt REAL-the screen shook, things got blurry, speedo going past 200, it even had intensity sound effects. It wasn't like most of the other games, were it feels like an itty-bitty boost to use constantly, NO, it isn't, and Underground 2 fixed this, making NOS feel authentic and goooood. Overall good experience. 3- Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (2010) I still play this game quite a bit. It does have quite a bit of rubber-banding, but I don't see why people dislike it because it does make racing feel a bit 'better' in a sense (although unrealistic, because my McLaren F1 goes faster than a Veyron. Also the game put all the Veyrons in the podium positions, it was annoying). But rubber-banding isn't meant to deteriorate from the game, it is meant to add on, and I think it did that in this game, no matter how excessive it was. Although the online bands were 'a bit' over-the-top (infinite NOS in last place FTW /s). Still, a very entertaining game. And I don't care about E-Z drifting straight roads or not, as long as the handling model is fun, I work with it. Don't forget about the Zonda Cinque either I kinda overly love that car, along with a good range of exotic cars. Hot pursuit really was a very good game. 2- Need for Speed Prostreet I can't understand why, but this game is freaking addicting and kinda like a fish hook covered in glue. Maybe it comes from speed challenges, a racing experience no other game has ever quite been able to capture, or maybe it was the damage model, unmatched by any other game I have played. This game is SO fun, it should be at the top of my list, but it isn't. Why? Bugs. Bugs EVERYWHERE. Bugged tracks? Yes. Bugged barriers? Yes. Near-every single car in the game bugged? Yes. Including the Supra? Yes. Too many bugs to list. It was still a greatly fun game at least. 1- Need for Speed Carbon This game, sitting at the top, is my favorite game. The best way to describe why it is so good is to take a look at problems that other games had that Carbon fixed. Such as gameplay: some games have an overly-long career, and then absolutely nothing to do afterwards, and others have crap careers, but good online play and such. Carbon had it all. A career that you can play at your own pace, a challenge series with good (non-repetitive NFSMW), fun events, excellent online play, etc. And customization-AUTOSCULPT!!!!!!!!!! Make the perfect spoiler, perfect hood, offset a roof scoop as much as you wanted to, god, I spend hours building cars in that game. Another thing to note is a fine car selection, I quite liked it. The game had everything. Canyon duels to carbon hoods, Carbon is the epitome of the series. No questions asked.
A good list.

here is my top 10 6 list ( the other ones I didn't like or haven't played) btw I excluded the ones I haven't played.
1: Carbon (I just loved the game, the canyons, the cars, the customization, territories, everything) 2: Underground (my first nfs game, such nostalgia, much fun, lots customization, wow (doge meme)) 3: Underground 2 (like the original, but with even more!) 4: Prostreet (The only legal nfs racing game that was fun) 5: World (I made friends, and I spent too much money on that game) 6: The Run (I loved the scenery, and it was fun and full of action, my only complaint is that is was way too short)

My list! And features rating of games that I've played and what do I think about they. 10. Rivals [2.0] Rented for a while. Expectations to be higher than HP'10 (as High Stakes was with HP'98) were gone forever. This game is so overrated that it features: tons of glitches, quality and quantity are very low (e.g. car list both sides) the game seems to be a PS2 game released for next-gen consoles and the soundtrack lack very much of action/energy songs (how can Pompeii give you confidence to drive at high speed?). However the concept of the game of cop vs. racer but it wasn't executed very well. 9. ProStreet [2.5] Well, the concept of simulator worked better with Shift. Black Box could re-apply the real damage a great list of cars and real upgrades, but for being a simulator, this game is away to be one since it wasn't made correctly. 8. Carbon [3.0] People will complain about this why this is on eighteeth place. Ok, yes, I admit, Carbon is superior to MW and features great modes, the variety of the cars are bigger, the city is a bit more expense, challenge series are in a event tree and we have finally have canyons! My real cons are the car classification, non-career licensed (and not bonus) cars can be unlocked but can't be purchased, the career mode is lower than MW (I beat the career in two days while MW I had a week), MW pursuits were reduced into a cameo only, cars the fucking drag is absent and the story is very non-sense to me. With all those cons doesn't make the game less enjoyable. 7. Most Wanted (2012) [3.0] yeah, it's Burnout Paradise 2 for some. It's a good attempt to mix the original MW with Burnout but, honestly, it gets boring over the time you play it most. Car jack spots, offline not 6. Porsche Unleashed (PSX) [3.5] PSX version of the game is great. Not a masterpiece enough but is still funny to play. Tracks are great and even free-roamable! (not so much) factory drive concept shows you the basic of driving and the Porsche's history pre-2000 is interesting for somebody that like those cars. 5. Hot Pursuit (2010) [3.5] Although I don't like the fact that Criterion didn't depart the drift from Burnout, lack of quick race and the Mario-Kart weapons rip-offs, it has a great game. A good variety of cars, a great and not boring place to race and the police chases are still great. 4. Most Wanted (2005) [3.5] Second best effort of Black Box. Although, the kind of the car list, damage, city size and textures and the fact that's inferior to Carbon just make it cliché. However, the pursuit is simply awesome, career mode and the missions make this game awesome. 3. Hot Pursuit (1998/PSX) [4.0] Same as High Stakes. Although, the lack of police mode and the car list that just make it kinda inferior to PC version, it's still enjoyable. 2. High Stakes (PSX) [4.0] Introducing career, car purchases and great pursuits, this was well made. It's inferior in quantity on the PC version but blasts everything in gameplay. 1. Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2) [4.5] Probably the best effort of Black Box, epic chase, great tracks, playable police vehicles and fun. Part of the car list and and the physics didn't do well enough but the game does still rocks. My opinion sentences get lower and please don't mind of them. Also, my apologies for grammar rush. And if there are other games missing is because I didn't play, don't want to talk about those or they're very poor of quality.

#1 : NFS The Run I heard that the story is kinda rushed but that's good. Best rushed story ever LoL #2 : NFS MW '05 Just great (M3 GTR forever) #3 : NFS Carbon Canyon race is just awesome, lot of mysteries and old mucles #4 : NFS MW '12 Free cars include the gallardo. DLC Pack for The Legendary M3? Nah #5 : NFS UG 2 You don't know how much I love it, and how much I hate ut as well #6 : NFS Undercover PS2 Porsche 911 GT2, rockport like map #7 : NFS HP '10 Great graphic, not such a good car list #8 : NFS Rivals Two factions, and an agera for cops. OP #9 : NFS Shift series Legal racing, I'm a bit allergic to that #10 : NFS Pro Street I know it got a BMW M3 E46 but too complicated. Bullshit game Yup I haven't played the classic NFS yet and haven't watch the videos either (NFS HP '10, MW '12, TR, and Rivals, I watched it) so it might change as soon as I played it
