I found these pictures that are allegedly concept art for Underground 1 in NFS-planet (source = this link ). I'm wondering if they are actually official concept art or fan made stuff. Specifically because some pictures are just photoshopped pictures of The Fast and the Furious (2001).

There's only 2 pictures that look photoshopped, the rest is pretty legit. There's one that interests me alot, and that's the one of the small coastal city. I think someone pointed out that maybe NFSU could've been set in a smaller city, setting the stage for Bayview as the "big city", as Rachel calls it.

Actually Olympic City is small...if we take a sprint track which goes across the city and cut the returns its maybe like 5-7 from east to west end...thats like a small town. At the coastal city, why you think its small? You only see a certain amount of it just sayin, there might be estates in the canyons too (this reminds me on Laguna Beach) However, it might be an earlier artwork of Atlantica or the coastline itself what they thought about, or its nothing relating to the game anymore because of the canyons (heights). Lookin at the whole thing, the harbor in the far could be the yacht harbor in Atlantica. Here's an example for this thought, however, I'm not saying it to be that way!

Sorry about the pictures, I guess they didn't load because of the "?" in the link or something. I meant these 2: Both are pictures from FnF pasted over another picture so I was wondering if EA actually did that or what.

Could be cause the game was only made and inspired because of the Fast-Movies, it could be some early artwork before they advanced everything, don't think those a fan made, especially from 2002, however officially there are 6 artworks (found in the fansite kit 2.0, read 2.0) including:
City: View over a city (related to OC itself) Condo: View over a luxurious estate with hotels, condos and a yacht harbor (related to Altantica) Financial District: View over a financial district in the downtown (related to the downtown) Port: View over a port area with sseveral induatries. (related to Port royal) Spillway: View over a Spillway (related to the Spillway dividing A and PR. Chinatown: View at the gate to Chinatown

Bayview has the same sized tracks that stretch from north to south or etc., some of them are only longer because of the turns in Jackson Heights. The sprint tracks in Olympic city are straight in comparison to the ones in Bayview, OC is mainly unfinished which is why the drivable areas seem small, and lastly, there are alot more skyscrapers in OC than Downtown Bayview, hinting that it's a bigger city. And yeah you might be right, that might only be a small section of whatever city that is in the picture.

OC is overall small, its complex just has an urban setting (skycrappers,...) for the most while Bayview is split in 5 large neighborhoods covering over 125 miles of open road with different environments.

Key word Open road, Olympic city was never completely finished so basically the only 2 districts there are are the industrial ( Port Royal, National Rail, parts of Stadium ) and the downtown ( Olympic Square, Inner City, Atlantica, Terminal, and Market Street ), they didn't have time to implement surrounding areas like the ghetto, the fancy neighborhoods, the "South Side" of town where everything's going on, etc. And plus there are lots of issues with OC either way, like the airport size, the drag track locations, the fact that there are no freeways, etc. Bayview is mostly completed, I'm sure there were going to be some more roads and drivable areas but the point is, they had time to "finish" it. I'm sure if EA had some time to finish Olympic, it would be about the same size as Bayview, maybe bigger, maybe smaller, but around that size.
